Taking a knee for George Floyd

Sacred Ground at 38th and Chicago

People gather every day at Cup Foods

Eleven days after the murder of George Floyd, after the protests and amid community meetings, the paying of respects on this corner became more of a celebration the life that was lost. The street is still blocked and tributes and murals are moved around and added to. After it rains volunteers clean up, replace flowers. The names painted on the street of police victims is painted and maintained.

This is truly considered sacred ground.

On this day there were speeches, music, free food and voter registration happening.

Although the mood was lighter there was still a feeling of a sort of wake that would last for days.
